This would provide one of the last 'essential' file view layouts that are commonly preferred by users and are typically selectable in any file management/explorer tool.
Related features and functionality needed for this to work
  • Bookmark meta-data
: add an additional "Title" field that can be used to specify very short labels for a bookmark, similar to the short labels we see for app icons on a smartphone
  • Bookmark icon
: support for square icons, ideally with the option for SVG, PNG, and JPG upload/artwork
  • Custom view
: for collections with nested collections, provide the option to display the nested collections as columns (rather than just rows), and include a masonry block flow (so that if a nested collection has fewer bookmarks it takes up less space to display)
  • Additional enhancement
(not required/mandatory as long as we can build our own collections and set ordering already): add an analytics/count on how often we click on a bookmark, so that we can sort/display bookmarks based on what we access and use most, this would also enable us to clean out less used or outdated bookmarks)
Use Cases
  • Personalized quick launch dashboard
for rapid access to commonly used bookmarks (e.g., links to system admin logins, references like AP Style Guide, etc. A page with this layout/view can be set as the default home page in a web browser (and for new tabs), so that when you are at work you can have a personalized dashboard that enables you to get to your most frequently used online tools with a single click without having to scroll or search

Google Chrome
- the shortcuts that display by on a new tab (just below the search bar). These are extremely useful, but limited to 10 shortcuts/bookmarks)
