Bookmark Notes
in progress
Rustem Mussabekov
This feature request about notes attached to bookmarks only!
Be sure that I'm not talking about separate notes. I do not plan to compete with note taking apps. There so many great ones already. I don't want to invest so much time to compete with them.
I don't want to shift focus from main thing - bookmarks. Good products make one thing, but do it great.

Yes, notes please! I'm testing out multiple bookmarking services since I'm not satisfied with my current one. Raindrop is great so far, but an intuitive bookmark note feature is something that I've been looking for!

Such a simple, but crucial feature. Would make Raindrop unbeatable and would add so much value to my workflow. When can we expect this to be launched?

Very exciting about this feature. Is there a ETA on this? Will it be synced to ReadWise?
I saved many YouTube video into Raindrop to consume later. My workaround is to write my note into description. Having the note in a separate will be better to (1) search them in a standalone field (2) view them in a dedicated view (3) sync them ReadWise or other sources.

Yes quick note in mark

Love this - want just a "quick note" capability. Either added as part of the bookmark that I'm adding via the webclipper, or a standalone quick note (via webclipper) with no link to any webpage. Happy to see that it is an in-progress feature.

Many good products become features in another platform :)

BASIC SHORT KEY EDITING - BOLD, ITALIC, UNDERLINE is sufficient. or +strikeout
I want to have simple editing of fonts eg. bold and italic about the description of the bookmark. What i mean (windows keys) is eg. +cntrl +b or +cntrl I to make what you type bold or italic. This will allow me a way to remember why i bookmarked but visually can see straight away from the different font this is a memory note, why i saved the book mark in the first place and what i intended at the time to do with it moving forward. Else, with all the notes one font there is no quite way to differentiate the utility of the notes other than clustering the description and thoughts all in one.

Is this feature live? I was using the API to import some stuff and think I triggered something that added some notes instead. But then I couldn't figure out any UI element associated with it. Possibly something sneaky I stumbled on via my use of the API.

Perhaps Rustem doesn't want this advertised yet but he's certainly working on it as I am seeing I can add notes via the API using "notes" as the arg and it seems to support some markup too during some brief testing. I'm not going full bore adding notes via API yet because he may change it but it's pretty neato!!!!

RDUser2022: I have also seen the "notes" object at the bookmark level in an API response object. I hadn't gone as far as actually trying to add one.
Now I have.
1) In bookmarks, content added programmatically (API) to "note" appears in span.note-
, whereas content added to "excerpt" appears as span.excerpt-
. Note content takes precedence over excerpt.2) Like you, adding "note" content lights up the "Notes" section in the nav.
Highlights have their own "notes" to denote per-highlight annotations. This, however, is the creation of a bookmark-level annotation.

Robert Andrews 👨🏻💻: Nice. Yeah, I have a whole idea around writing my own person notes-addition plugin but haven't yet since it doesn't look like it's been made official and wondering if it could change/stored notes could be deleted after I submit/store data there. Looking forward to having this officially baked in.

RDUser2022: Interesting. Yeah, I am coming from clipping a lot to Notion. Now testing Obsidian and getting PKM/Zettelkasten types insisting that source capture is not enough, that you must be taking "literature notes" in order to reflect on the source material. Strikes me that Raindrop and maybe others have the potential to combine source, reference, and highlight/annotation of salient points; the info just needs to become available/linkable in a wider knowledge system - separation from the knowledge system seems problematic.

Robert Andrews 👨🏻💻: I have been using LogSeq (instead of Obsidian) and Raindrop in concert. Optimally would be good to have everything in one place but unrealistic for me to think this will be possible since they are both quite different and just useful for me to create quick notes on a link in Raindrop as a helpful reminder when I expound on it in a real note or research project inside LogSeq. So many tools, so many workflows, so little time.
LogSeq actually has a plugin that syncs links saved to LogSeq to Raindrop so you get a one-way sync. I don't use it but I saw it in plugin database.

This X10!
"Strikes me that Raindrop and maybe others have the potential to combine source, reference, and highlight/annotation of salient points; the info just needs to become available/linkable in a wider knowledge system"
The key (I think) is SOURCE. No app saves full, formatted source, in one app like raindrop does.
At the moment, to START achieving your vision, I think raindrop only needs:
- Link-able/tag-able highlights
- Basic formatting retention in the actual highlights (eg <code>, <ul>,<ol>, <img> etc)
Can you imagine how amazing it would be, if the highlights on your moldboard were clickable — taking you right to the source of the highlight?!!!!

Excellent, yes only a note about the bookmark. (Can't really use description - well, you could but...)
