iOS: YouTube Video Playback with Ad-Free & PiP Mode (like Pocket)
paunolo
I recently switched from Pocket to Raindrop and overall, I’m loving the experience—thank you! However, there’s one feature I sorely miss from Pocket: the ability to play YouTube videos directly within the app (iOS specifically), likely via an iframe or webview.
Pocket’s implementation allowed:
• In-app video playback without opening an external browser
• Ad-free viewing, possibly because it respected Safari’s WebView settings (where I had ad-blocking enabled)
• Picture-in-Picture (PiP) mode, making it perfect for multitasking on iPad or iPhone
Currently, I’m working around this by opening saved YouTube links in the Brave browser for a similar experience, but it would be a huge win to have this baked directly into Raindrop.
Additionally, Pocket’s “reader mode” for videos and articles—stripping out distractions while keeping the content—was a great complementary feature. If Raindrop supported something like that for articles or even simplified video playback, it would round out the experience beautifully.
Feature Wishlist:
• Native in-app YouTube playback for saved videos
• Support for PiP mode on iOS
• Use of a webview or similar that respects content blockers
• Optional “reader mode” or distraction-free view for both articles and video descriptions
Thanks again for building such a thoughtful product—looking forward to seeing how Raindrop evolves!
